Volunteer With Children

Some local non profit organizations to promote the development of children with special abilities such as handcrafting, singing, sports and corporal expression.

Currently the project is working mainly with children and teenagers, four hours per day, three times a week.

International volunteers will work with children to make handcrafts, supervise singing, and teach Physical Education classes as well as corporal expression activities. You can also suggest new activities.

Community Development

Since the 1990’s, government programs in Uruguay have launched plans of assistance to social emergency to help the poorest people in Uruguay.

Uruguay housing development voluntary service – Latin America volunteering service abroad; work with children, nature, habitat for humanity housing development.The “Habitat Improvement Program” is part of an agreement between the local government of Treinta y Tres (IMTT), the Ministry of Social Development (MSD)and Habitat for Humanity in Uruguay.

The main aim of the project is to improve housing among the local poor with active participation of the people; giving them materials and technical assistance; working with the government and Habitat for Humanity to support their common goals of housing the poor.

Duties and Activities
Volunteers will participate in selecting needy families from the public based on their economic needs, and on the territorial and housing quality criteria for the local area.

In addition, international volunteers will participate in building and construction, and training of the local people in construction and community development and management.

Conservation Projects

Do you desire to save nature? You can do so by signing up for nature protection volunteering abroad in the most beautiful South American country of Uruguay.

Quebrada de los Cuervos is part of the National System of Protected Areas. The area has a microclimate similar to subtropical conditions. There are many unusual plants and animals that are usually only found in subtropical climates. This protected land has a range of diverse species that can only be found in this part of Uruguay.

Crows are the guardians of the area. There are several species of crows, such as red-head crows (Catharthes aura), black-head crows (Coragyps atratus) and yellow-head crows (Cartharthes burrovianus). Some of these species are near extinction.

As an international volunteer some of your placements will be with organizations that are working towards protecting the environment by preserving the population of crows and butterflies in Uruguay.

Voluntary service with this project will entail carrying out census of birds and butterflies to: determine the population, determine wildlife diversity, and determine other aspects of the wildlife species in collaboration with local researchers and scientists.

Spanish Language Requirements
Basic Spanish is strongly recommended but not required. International volunteers and interns abroad without working knowledge of Spanish are encouraged to sign up for classes with Spanish schools in Uruguay to acquire basic language skills.

Age Limit:
18 and over; under 18 years only as part of a group or with family.

Location:
Most projects are in Montevideo and Treinta Y Tres.

Length of Programs:
Generally 2 to 12 weeks.

Starting Dates:
Every month.

Accommodation:
Accommodation is usually provided by host families or hostel, with or without meals.

Transportation:
Projects within walking distance from home.

Schedule:
Usually Mondays to Fridays. 3 to 8 hours daily.
