Iceland is one of the most spectacular countries in the world, with a high quality of living and incredible tourist attractions. You can find volunteer opportunities in Reykjavik and rural areas of the country.

Iceland is home to some of the most interesting ecological and conservation projects in Europe, on some volunteers can do face to face campaigning informing tourists about marine life in Iceland and around its water along with surveys. Volunteers learn about different NGOs as well as various aspects of animal welfare.

Some local organisations have been working closely with IFAW, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, along with Icewhale on animal welfare issues; in particular whale protection with an emphasis on minke whales and fin whales. There has been a campaign known as Meet Us Don’t Eat Us.

Numerous volunteers from all around the globe have joined both short term or long term projects, summer projects are popular and generally lasts for around two weeks.

Volunteers that take part usually on conservation projects get lots of free time to go whale watching with any whale watching operator. Organisations will also assist volunteers in in planning or organizing excursions outside the capital.

No fees are paid for whale watching with some operators since it is a part of the campaign and volunteers have the opportunity to travel outside the capital area in their leisure time. In addition this this, volunteers can also visit the largest whale museum in Europe, Whales of Iceland.

Participants usually live in comfortable accommodation and we place emphasis on them being acquainted with Icelandic culture, society and its nature. Our long term volunteers receive purposeful Icelandic lessons and short-term volunteers are introduced to some helpful Icelandic phrases. All of our volunteers receive crucial training about all matters related to whale protection.
