Program Requirements
The minimum age for joining most programs is 16. There are no specific qualifications needed to join non-skilled programs. However, volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient as well as possess a passion and love for cultures and helping others. Knowing Spanish isn’t essential as most programs are in English with English speaking staff. But learning basic Spanish is recommended especially for integration and communicating with local people.

Do I need a visa?
British, United States and Canadian (and most European) passport holders do not require a visa for stays up to 30 days. Other nationalities should check with their nearest embassy or consulate for requirements.

Do I need to speak Spanish?
No Spanish is needed to be a successful volunteer in Central America, most organisations offer placements in English. But most volunteers find it helps at some projects especially community volunteering and when interacting and working with people. We recommend

Spanish classes can be organised easily, and some volunteers take a few classes during their stay. You can find Spanish language schools in Central America, or sometimes your volunteer coordinator can organise Spanish classes as part of the training programme for your volunteer project.
