Internships in Uruguay

You can find a diverse array of overseas internships in South America and if you choose Uruguay as your destination you’ll to polish your skills, earn college/school credits and boost your career.

There are short-term, long-term and group international work experience placements available in many areas including working with children; nature conservation and housing development.

Childcare Internships

Some agencies partner with local non profit organisations to promote the development of children with special abilities such as handcrafting, singing, sports and corporal expression. The children will also have an opportunity to participate in the Special Olympic Games, once a year and will be competing in many different sporty disciplines.

Currently the project is working mainly with children and teenagers, four hours per day, three times a week. International interns will work with children to make handcrafts, supervise singing, and teach Physical Education classes as well as corporal expression activities.

Community Internships

Since the 1990′?’s, government programs in Uruguay have launched plans of assistance to social emergency to help the poorest people in Uruguay. The Habitat Improvement Program is part of an agreement between the local government of Treinta y Tres (IMTT) and the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).

The main aim of the project is to improve housing among the local poor with active participation of the people; giving them materials and technical assistance. Interns will participate in selecting needy families from the public based on their economic needs, and on the territorial and housing quality criteria for the local area.

In addition, interns will participate in building and construction, and training of the local people in construction and community management.

Conservation Internships

Do you desire to save nature? You can do so by signing up for a nature conservation internship abroad in the most beautiful South American country of Uruguay. As an intern some of your placements will be with organizations that are working towards protecting the environment by preserving the population of crows and butterflies in Uruguay.

Internship service with this project will entail carrying out census of birds and butterflies to: determine species population, determine wildlife diversity, and determine other aspects of the wildlife species, in collaboration with local researchers and scientists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Spanish Language Requirements:
Basic Spanish is strongly recommended but not required. International interns without working knowledge of Spanish are encouraged to sign up for Spanish courses in Uruguay to acquire basic Spanish skills.

Age Limit:
18 and over; under 18 years only with family or a group.

Location:
Most internships are in Montevideo, Quebrada de Los Cuervos and Treinta Y Tres. If you like the idea of combing programs you could also apply to volunteer in Uruguay.

Length of Program:
2 to 12 weeks.

Starting Dates:

Accommodation:
Accommodation is usually provided by host families or hostel, with or without meals.

Transportation:
Placements are usually within walking distance from home.

Schedule:
Mondays to Fridays. 3 to 8 hours daily.
