Travel to England

These are some of the top locations to see and you can find organised trips to all.

London Calling
Most travellers arrive in London and the capital city is by far the most visited place in England. For backpackers, it can be expensive, but there are dozens of affordable hostels in the city and many of the best sights can be seen for free.

There is no entrance fee for most of the museums, with the massive and spectacular British Museum being the highlight and an absolute must-visit. The Natural History and Science museums are also worth seeing.

The capital’s most famous buildings, such as Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and the Tower Bridge can all be enjoyed from outside without spending a penny. There are also many parks around for backpackers to while away afternoons people-watching.

Places to See Near London
Not far from London are the famous university cities of Oxford and Cambridge, and the royal castle town of Windsor, which are all recommended for your itinerary.

Brighton
After London, many backpackers head south, to Brighton. Brighton is a popular place for people who want to experience a traditional British seaside town.

There are many hotels on the seafront which are affordable on a backpacker’s budget and close to the wonderful pier, amusement arcades and gardens.

The beach is delightful, especially in good weather and an ice-cream on the seafront is a quintessentially British experience.

Beatle-mania in Liverpool
Liverpool is another popular destination, with a great tradition of music and sport, and was named European Capital of Culture in 2008.

It’s the home of Liverpool Football Club, one of the most successful teams in Europe and you can catch a game at Anfield Stadium.

Liverpool is also the hometown of the world’s biggest band, the Beatles. Take the Magical Mystery Tour or have a drink in the pub where they first played, the Cavern.

Wherever you choose to go in England, you’ll have a great time. Just relax and let it be.
